The first phenomenon that owners of gold or silver jewelry can face is oxidation. This is a natural phenomenon, but it can still be mitigated. It is important to avoid humidity, intense heat and contrasts caused by showering, hand washing, sport, sauna sessions, etc. as much as possible. As well as corrosive and chemical liquids for metals: salt water, chlorinated water or bleach for example. Cosmetic products are also a risk for jewellery: waiting about ten minutes after use on before putting on your favourite jewelry helps to preserve its shine.
If your jewellery is slightly oxidised or tarnished, you can clean it with clear lukewarm water by gently rubbing it in one direction with a soft cloth. Then wipe the jewel gently with a soft cloth or silk fabric.
Our jewelry can then be subject to scratches and marks of various types. It is preferable to remove your jewelry when you sleep and during activities such as sports, housework or gardening to avoid any marks or scratches. These can also be caused by jewelry storage: this is why it is important to keep jewelry well separated and not stored in the same place. It is best to use jewelry boxes or small individual cloth bags. It is also preferable that the chains are closed and laid flat to prevent knots from forming.
